  1. Slide 1: Social studies: devrel with Matt
  2. Slide 2: Developer relations. Community: talk to people. Content: build and share. Product: improve and document a product. whatisdevrel.com
  3. Slide 3: Compounding: learn and teach (content), interact (community), deliver feedback (product). Over time this turns into goodwill, relationships, and trust. But it starts with being useful and expecting nothing in return
  4. Slide 4: Be as useful as possible
  5. Slide 5: Hi, I’m Matt: in a former life I was a data engineer, then I led devrel and content at Replit, now I focus on devex at Conductor
  6. Slide 6: At Replit: content that taught people how to build, community through interaction (online and offline), and using both to improve the product
  7. Slide 7: Good devrel: learn or build something useful, share it, notice patterns, iterate. Good social: have a useful point of view, give people something, notice what works, iterate
  8. Slide 8: What people see: YouTube grew 4x to 100k+, personal audience grew to 100k+, 100k+ took courses, shareholders received value
  9. Slide 9: What people remember: “You’re the person who sends me emails”, “You’re the person from the tutorial videos”, “I took your course, you helped me”. People remember people, not brands. The greatest form of goodwill is being useful
  10. Slide 10: What people remember: “I’ve been to your apartment”, “Do you live at [redacted] address?”, “Nice legs bro”. This is a blessing and a curse
  11. Slide 11: Be as useful as possible
  12. Slide 12: Social capital
  13. Slide 13: Two games: B2C posting is about being useful, B2B posting is about high-quality opinions. Two very different audiences. B2B = reputation
  14. Slide 14: Would you rather have 100k crypto followers, or 100 followers who are CEOs? People do judge you on your content. A banger tweet might not be worth your reputation
  15. Slide 15: What is good devrel? It’s very similar to good social: be useful, be authentic, build in public, have restraint. Community, content, product
